National Health Insurance Awareness Survey on Eye Health and Presbyopia in Adults in their 40s

Abstract
Purpose : To investigate how national health insurance and the application of presbyopia correction tools by insurance companies are perceived among adults in their 40s.

Methods : An online survey of 186 adults aged 40 to 49 was conducted for two months from March 1, 2023. The questionnaire consisted of 14 items, comprising 6 demographic questions, 4 general questions on their perspective on national health insurance, and 4 questions on their perspective on the application of presbyopia correction tools by national health insurance companies.

Results : The group more interested in eye health care scored 3.46 points, had a higher health insurance awareness, and showed a significant difference when compared to the (F=6.32, p<0.010). The subjective eye health condition was 4.09 points in the "problematic" group and 3.80 points in the "non-problematic" group, and the group that subjectively recognized poor eye health conditions was highly aware of the need for health insurance to purchase eye tests and correction tools. (t=2.32, p<0.050).

Conclusions : This study confirmed that adults in their 40s are interested in national health insurance and recognize that it is necessary for eye health, including eye tests and vision correction tools. Considering the perspectives of adults in their 40s, it is necessary to establish national health insurance policies related to eye health, and the results of this study are expected to be used as primary data to expand the scope of the application of national health insurance policies for vision correction tools.
